    • Length (single vehicle): 45 feet
    • Length (semitrailer): 59 feet 6 inches

Legal Weight:

    • Single Axle: 20,000 pounds
    • Tandem Axle: 34,000 pounds
    • Gross Vehicle Weight: 80,000 pounds (for 5 or more axles)

Kansas Oversize/Overweight Permits

Kansas offers a variety of permits for vehicles exceeding the legal dimensions or weight:

Annual Permit:

Maximum Dimensions:

    • Height: Based on bridge/structure clearances

Cost: Annual Permit – $ 150

    1. Overdimension Superload Permit:
      Superload permits are required for vehicles that exceed 16 feet in width, 16 feet in height, 126 feet in length, or a gross vehicle weight exceeding 150,000 pounds. These loads require special routing and may need additional escort vehicles.
      • Cost: $200

Kansas Trip and Fuel (IRP/IFTA) Permits

Temporary trip and fuel permits are required for vehicles that are not properly registered or licensed in Kansas:

    1. Fuel & Registration 3-Day Permit:
      For vehicles without an IRP (International Registration Plan) license, allowing temporary travel in Kansas.

        • Registration Cost: $46
    2. Fuel 24-Hour Permit:
      Required for out-of-state carriers who do not hold a valid IFTA (International Fuel Tax Agreement) license.
