Nevada State Permit Resource

Staying current with state permits is crucial for truckers to ensure legal compliance and avoid costly fines or delays. These permits help streamline operations, ensuring that truckers can transport goods smoothly across state lines without regulatory issues.

Nevada Oversize and Overweight Regulations

ODV permits are required for non-reducible loads that exceed:

    • 80,000 pounds gross weight, or
    • 8 feet, 6 inches in width, or
    • 14 feet in height, or
    • 10 feet of front or rear overhang, or
    • 70 feet in length.

Shorter Overweight Vehicle (SOV) Permit Regulations

These apply to reducible loads that:

    • Qualify as a commodity,
    • Exceed 80,000 pounds gross weight, but do not exceed 70 feet in length,
    • Or do not qualify for Longer Combination Vehicle (LCV) permits.

Longer Combination Vehicle (LCV) Permits

LCV permits apply to reducible loads exceeding 70 feet in length.

Annual ODV Permits

    • Fee: $60
    • Valid for one year from the date of issue.
    • Permits should be applied for 30 days in advance of movement or renewal.

Five-Day ODV Permits

    • Fee: $25
    • Valid for five days.
    • NDOT aims for same-day service if applied before 4:30 PM.

Super Load ODV Permits

    • Permits for Super Loads must be submitted online 10 business days prior to movement and Requires NHP (Nevada Highway Patrol) escorts and coordination with NDOT.

Super Load dimensions:

    • 17 feet wide on 2-3 lane highways,
    • 19 feet wide on 4+ lane highways,
    • 18 feet tall (requires a route survey),
    • 200 feet long,
    • 500,000 pounds or more.
    • Fee: Starts at $25.

Nevada Trip and Fuel (IRP / IFTA) Permits

Out-of-state commercial vehicles with a combined gross vehicle weight of 10,001 pounds or more must obtain a registration permit before entering Nevada.

Fuel tax permits are required for:

    • Vehicles over 26,001 pounds, or
    • Vehicles with three or more axles.

For Nevada-based carriers:

    • Registration fees: $6 plus 15 cents per mile.
    • Special fuel permits: $31 flat rate.
