West Virginia State Permit Resource

Staying current with state permits is crucial for truckers to ensure legal compliance and avoid costly fines or delays. These permits help streamline operations, ensuring that truckers can transport goods smoothly across state lines without regulatory issues.

Single Trip Permits:

    • Issued for oversize and/or overweight vehicles or mobile homes. These permits are vehicle and route-specific.
      • Fee: $20 per trip + $0.04 per ton-mile if overweight.
    • If low-impact monitoring is required for bridge crossings, costs are $150 for the first bridge, $100 for the second bridge, and $50 for each additional bridge (up to $750).
    • Validity: 10 days.

    West Virginia Manufactured Houses and Mobile Homes:

    Single Trip Permit:

      • Combination Length: 110 feet.
      • Mobile Home Length: 80 feet.
      • Width: 16 feet.
      • Height: 15 feet 6 inches.
      • Fee: $20 per trip + $0.04 per ton-mile if overweight.

    Annual Permits:

      • For mobile homes 14 feet wide or less. These permits are not vehicle or route-specific.
      • Fee: $200.
      • Validity: 1 year.

    Oversize Blanket Permit:

      • Interstate & Divided Routes: 14’ 6″ high, 14’ wide, 95’ long, 15’ overhang.
      • US & Selected Routes: 14’ high, 12’ wide, 75’ long, 10’ overhang.
      • All Other Routes: 13’ 6″ high, 12’ wide, 75’ long, 10’ overhang.

    Cost: $200.

    Overweight and Oversize Blanket Permit:

      • Interstate & Divided Routes: 14’ 6″ high, 14’ wide, 95’ long.
      • US & Selected Routes: 14’ high, 12’ wide, 75’ long.
      • All Other Routes: 13’ 6″ high, 12’ wide, 75’ long.
      • Axle Weight Limits:
        • Single axle: 28,000 lbs.
        • Tandem axle: 45,000 lbs.
        • Tridem axle: 50,000 lbs.
        • Gross weight: 110,000 lbs.

        Cost: $500.

    Seagoing Blanket Permit:

      • For overweight seagoing containerized cargo.
      • Weight Limits:
        • Gross weight: 90,000 lbs.
        • Single axle: 28,000 lbs.
        • Tandem axle: 45,000 lbs.
        • Tridem axle: 50,000 lbs.

    Cost: $150 for the first 1-15 permits, $15 for each additional permit.

    West Virginia Trip and Fuel (IRP/IFTA) Permits:

      • Trip Permit: Not required.
      • Fuel Permit: Valid for 10 days, $24.00.
