  • Tandem Axles (40-96 inches spacing): 34,000 lbs
  • Single Unit (2 Axles): 40,000 lbs
  • Single Unit (3 Axles): 54,000 lbs
  • Tractor-Semitrailer (3 Axles): 60,000 lbs
  • Tractor-Semitrailer (4 Axles): 74,000 lbs
  • Tractor-Semitrailer (5 or more Axles): 80,000 lbs
  • Per inch of tire width: 650 lbs

Axle and Gross Weight Limits (based on axle spacing):

• • 5-axle vehicle with 51 feet of axle spacing: 80,000 lbs
  • 5-axle vehicle with 47 feet of axle spacing: 77,500 lbs
  • 3-axle vehicle with 20 feet of axle spacing: 51,000 lbs
  • 3-axle vehicle with 17 feet of axle spacing: 48,500 lbs

Single Trip Permit:

  • Fee: $20 (Mobile homes and Manufactured housing: flat fee of $1 instead of 30 cents per mile).
  • Validity: Up to 13 days.

Blanket Permit:

    • Width: 14 ft
    • Length: 100 ft
  • Cost: $100 for 1 year, $200 for two years.
  • Additional Fees: $40 mileage fee and $360 damage fee per year if overweight.

Virginia Trip and Fuel (IRP/IFTA) Permits:

• • IRP: $15 for a 10-day trip permit.
  • IFTA: $20 for a 10-day fuel permit.
  • Combination IRP/IFTA: $35.

• • Applicant’s full name, address, and phone number.
  • Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN) or Social Security Number.
  • Lessor’s name (if applicable).
  • License plate number, state, and expiration date.
  • Vehicle year, make, model, VIN, and unit number.
