Tennessee State Permit Resource

Permits are required for vehicles exceeding the following dimensions:

- Width: 8 ft. 6 in.
- Height: 13 ft. 6 in.
- Length: 50 ft. for tractor + semitrailer combination
- Overhang: 60 in. (5 ft.) total for both front and rear
- Weight:
- Single Axle: 20,000 lbs
- Tandem Axle: 34,000 lbs
- Gross Weight: 80,000 lbs
Annual Permits:

- For non-divisible loads exceeding state weight limits:
- Up to 120,000 lbs GVW: $500
- 120,000 to 150,000 lbs GVW: $1,000
- Weights over 150,000 lbs require a special permit from the Commissioner of Transportation.
- For non-divisible loads exceeding state weight limits:

Single Trip Permits:

- Width up to 16 ft: $100
- Height over 14 ft 2 in: $50
- Length: $25
- Single trip permits are valid for 6 days.

- 14 ft wide mobile homes: $1,000
- 16 ft wide mobile homes: $2,000
72-Hour Trip Permit:

- Required for vehicles not registered or apportioned for Tennessee, allowing interstate or intrastate movement.
- Fee: $30 plus wire service fees.
Temporary Fuel Use Permit:

- Valid for up to 7 consecutive days, for vehicles not licensed under IFTA, allowing movement in Tennessee.
- Fee: $30 per permit plus wire service fees.
