Maximum Allowable Sizes and Weights by Permit:
- Overall Length:

- Non-Divisible Loads: Up to 125 feet.
- Mobile Homes: Up to 110 feet.
- Structural Material: Over 80 feet requires a permit.

- Maximum rear overhang: 15 feet (for trailers less than 48 feet), 10 feet (for 48 or 53-foot trailers).
- Front overhang: Maximum of 3 feet.

- Overall Height:

- Loads must be at least 3 inches shorter than the lowest overhead structure.
- A route survey is required for loads over 16 feet in height.

- Mobile Homes & Non-Divisible Loads: Maximum width of 16 feet.

- Two axle single unit vehicle 40,000 lbs.
- Three axle single unit vehicle 50,000 lbs.

- Combination of vehicles with three axles 55,000 lbs.
- Combination of vehicles with four axles 70,000 lbs.
- Combination of vehicles with five axles 90,000 lbs
- Combination of vehicles with six axles 110,000 lbs.
- Combination of vehicles with seven axles 130,000 lbs.
- Gross Tandem Weights:

- Single axle 20,000 lbs.
- Tandem axle 40,000 lbs.
- Tridem or Quad axle 60,000 lbs.
**A Quad axle greater than 60,000 lbs. has to be reviewed by engineering on the requested route of travel**
Types of Permits:
Single Trip Permit:

- Valid for 7 days for a one-time move.
- Route-specific, and vehicle information is required.
- Fee: $30
Multiple Trip Permit:

- Allows non-divisible loads, mobile homes, or containerized cargo up to 100,000 lbs on 5 or more axles.
- Valid for 1 year.
- Weight limits differ based on the vehicle and route.
- Fee: $100
Superload Permit:

- Required for loads over 130,000 lbs or exceeding specific axle weights.
- Additional fees and structural analyses may be needed.
- Fee: $100
South Carolina Trip and Fuel (IRP / IFTA) Permits:

- Trip Permit: Fee is $15, valid for 72 hours.
- Fuel Permit: Fee is $15, valid for 10 days.
