Staying current with state permits is crucial for truckers to ensure legal compliance and avoid costly fines or delays. These permits help streamline operations, ensuring that truckers can transport goods smoothly across state lines without regulatory issues.

Maximum Legal Weights (State and Designated Highways)

    • Max. Load per Tire: 800 pounds per inch of width or manufacturer’s tire rating.
    • Max. Wheel Load: 11,200 pounds.
    • Max. Weight on One Axle: 22,400 pounds.
    • Max. Weight on Two Axles (less than 8 feet apart): 36,000 pounds.
      • Note: Axles less than 46 inches apart are considered one axle.
    • Max. Weight on Two Consecutive Axles (8-10 feet apart): 40,000 pounds.
    • Max. Weight on All Axles: 80,000 pounds.

For vehicles under 71,000 pounds, either:

    • Total axle weight must not exceed 34,000 pounds + 1,000 pounds for each foot from the foremost to the rearmost axle.

    Divisible Load Overweight Permits

    Type 1 (F1)

      • Axle/Grouping Weights:
        • Steering axle: 22,400 lbs
        • Single axle: 25,000 lbs
        • Tandem: 47,000 lbs
        • Tridem: 57,000 lbs
        • Max Gross: 97,400 lbs (based on F1 formula: 1,250×Wheelbase+42,5001,250 \times \text{Wheelbase} + 42,5001,250×Wheelbase+42,500)
      • Fee: $360.00

    Type 1A (F1)

      • Axle/Grouping Weights: Same as Type 1.
      • Quad Grouping: 62,000 lbs.
      • Max Gross: 102,000 lbs (based on F1 formula).
      • Fee:
        • 5 or 6 axles: $750.00
        • 7 or more axles: $900.00

    Type 7 (F2)

      • Axle/Grouping Weights:
        • Tandem: 48,000 lbs
        • Tridem: 58,000 lbs
        • Quad: 63,000 lbs
      • Max Gross: 107,000 lbs
      • Fee:
        • 6 axles: $750.00
        • 7 or more axles: $900.00

    Type 9 (F2)

      • Axle/Grouping Weights:
        • Steering (Tractor): 13,000 lbs
        • Steering (Truck): 17,000 lbs

    New York Trip and Fuel (IRP / IFTA) Permits

    Fuel Use Tax Permit

      • Instead of an IFTA license, a 72-hour trip permit is available for $25.00.
      • You cannot apply for more than 10 trip permits per year.

    Highway Use Tax (HUT)

      • Required for vehicles 18,000 lbs and over.
      • Special permits are required for trucks transporting fuel (AFC permit for trailers).

    Manufactured/Modular Housing (14′ Wide and Less)

    Limits:

      • Width: 14’0”
      • Max Length: 80 feet
      • Max Gross: 80,000 lbs

    Fees:

      • Regional Office: $60.00
      • Permit Service: $40.00

    16-Foot Manufactured Home Permit

      • Width: 14’1″ – 16’0″
