Nebraska State Permit Resource
Staying current with state permits is crucial for truckers to ensure legal compliance and avoid costly fines or delays. These permits help streamline operations, ensuring that truckers can transport goods smoothly across state lines without regulatory issues.
Exceptions
-
- Width: Farm equipment moving during daylight hours in the normal course of farm operations is exempt from the 8’6″ width limit.
- Height: Operators are liable for damage caused by vehicles exceeding 12’6″ in height.
- Length: Temporary farm equipment and public utility/construction material moves during daylight hours are exempt from length limits. Refrigeration units overhanging the cab of trucks are not counted in length calculations.
- Weight: Vehicles exceeding their registered gross weight by more than 1,000 pounds are illegal. Legal gross weight on Interstate routes is 80,000 lbs and on US/State routes is 94,000 lbs.
Permit Fees for Oversize and Overweight Loads:

- Single trip – Overdimensional Only: $15
- Single trip – Overweight Only: $20
- Single trip – Overweight and Overdimensional: $25
For continuous local or statewide envelope permits:

- 90-day period: $25
- 180-day period: $50
- 270-day period: $75
- One-year period: $100
Seasonal and Special Permits

- Grain/seasonally harvested products: $25 for a 30-day permit, renewable up to 150 days per calendar year.
- Garbage/Refuse: $10 per month, up to $100 annually.
- Interstate Implement of Husbandry: $25 for 90 days, up to $100 annually.
- Baled Livestock Forage Interstate Permit: $25 for 90 days.
- Highway 75 Implement of Husbandry Permit: No fee.
- Conditional Interstate Use Permit: $10 for each 10-day increment, up to a maximum of $90 for 90 days.
- Extra-Long Vehicle Combination Permit: $250 annually.

Manufactured Houses and Mobile Homes Permits

- Two types of permits:
- Type 1: For dealers or new buildings.
- Type 2: For pre-owned or used buildings.
- Single trip, multi-month, or annual permits are available.

Nebraska Trip and Fuel (IRP / IFTA) Permits

- Temporary Permit: Issued for up to 45 days while apportioned registration is processed. This is free, and only one temporary per unit is allowed.
- Fuel Permit: Temporary decal/permit is valid for 30 days and must be kept in the vehicle cab along with the IFTA license.
