Staying current with state permits is crucial for truckers to ensure legal compliance and avoid costly fines or delays. These permits help streamline operations, ensuring that truckers can transport goods smoothly across state lines without regulatory issues.

Indiana Annual Permits

Annual or 90-day permits are available for vehicles that exceed legal dimensions but fall within the following limits:

    • Width: 12 feet 4 inches
    • Height: 13 feet 6 inches
    • Length: 110 feet
    • Weight: 80,000 pounds

An annual or 90-day permit allows for unlimited trips within the permit’s duration. However, these permits do not allow travel on the Indiana Toll Road.

Permit Costs:

    • Annual Oversize Permit: $405
    • 90-Day Permit: Costs are the same as the annual permit, prorated for the permit’s shorter duration.

Indiana Trip and Fuel (IRP/IFTA) Permits

Fuel Permit:
For vehicles that only occasionally travel through Indiana, a 5-day fuel trip permit can be purchased instead of a permanent license. The 5-day trip permit authorizes commercial vehicles to operate in or through Indiana for five consecutive days.

    • Permit Cost: $50, plus any service charges from the permit service provider.

Temporary Trip Permit:
For vehicles not registered in Indiana, a 3-day IRP trip permit is required. This permit is intended for out-of-state vehicles temporarily traveling through Indiana but not apportioned for Indiana.

    • Permit Cost: $50, plus any additional charges from the permit provider.

Indiana Manufactured Houses and Mobile Homes

Indiana offers different types of permits for transporting mobile homes. These permits vary depending on the width of the mobile home:

12 Feet 4 Inch Wide Mobile Home Permits:

    • Dimensions: Maximum width of 12 feet 4 inches, overall length of 110 feet, height of 14 feet, and weight of 80,000 pounds.
    • Permit Fees:
      • Single Trip Permit: $10
      • 90-Day Permit: $250
      • Annual Permit: $1,000

14 Feet 4 Inch Wide Mobile Home Permits:

    • Dimensions: Maximum width of 14 feet 4 inches, overall length of 110 feet, height of 14 feet 6 inches, and weight of 80,000 pounds.
    • Permit Fees:
      • Single Trip Permit: $18
      • 90-Day Permit: $500
      • Annual Permit: $2,000

16 Feet Wide Mobile Home Permits:

    • Dimensions: Maximum width of 16 feet, overall length of 110 feet, height of 14 feet 6 inches, and weight of 80,000 pounds.
    • Permit Fees:
      • Single Trip Permit: $30

Mobile Home Annual Dealer Permit:
This permit is available to licensed mobile home dealers and allows for the transport of mobile homes up to 12 feet 4 inches wide, 85 feet long, and 13 feet 6 inches high.

    • Permit Fee: $40
