Delaware Trip and Fuel (IRP / IFTA) Permits
Delaware requires the following permits for out-of-state carriers operating within the state:
-
- Trip Permit: Required for carriers not listed on the IRP cab card. The trip permit must be acquired before entering Delaware and is valid only within the state.
- Temporary Fuel Permit: Delaware offers a 30-day IFTA temporary fuel permit for carriers in good standing. This permit serves as a temporary substitute for the annual IFTA decals, allowing carriers to operate without the need for permanent registration. However, failure to carry this temporary permit can result in the purchase of a trip permit and possible citation.
- 72-Hour Permit: This permit allows reciprocity for trip and/or fuel permits for 72 hours (3 days). These permits are vehicle-specific and valid only for the designated timeframe.
